Josh's review this week has a personal touch. Way back when, Josh and author Sara Andrea Fajardo went to journalism school together in Missouri. It's this storytelling and sensitivity that shine in her Ezra Jack Keats Writer Award winning picture book, Alberto Salas Plays Paka Paka Con La Papa, a nonfiction story that emerged from her personal experiences working in Peru. This book works so well because it's both playful and urgent, keenly cultural and sensitive to the changing needs of a growing and hungry world. And Juana Martinez-Neal's art really highlights how scrappy Alberto Salas has to be to play hide and seed with potatoes. Muy orgulloso de ti, Sarita!
