And my review for the week is for ERNO RUBIK AND HIS MAGIC CUBE, by Kerry Aradhya and illustrated by Kara Kramer. As my lil picture book audience gets older we seem to be focusing more on real life bios and stories, and this is a good one. Rubik focuses on his interests and not so much on the expectations of others, and finds his way in the world, in a way that incorporates his passion for puzzles. More importantly it uses the Rubik's Cube's development as a way to relate resilience, adaptability, and problem solving. And Kara Kramer's art perfectly complements both Kerry Aradhya's storytelling as well as the eventual product of Rubik's ingenuity - it's colorful, it has twists and turns, and it's a visual puzzle to keep us engaged. And it taught me something too!
