KAFKA AND THE DOLL

And Josh's review is for KAFKA AND THE DOLL, written by Larissa Theule and Rebecca Green. This is a fascinating book because it's not as though it feels any sense of responsibility to explain who Franz Kafka is. You can either infer or not care. And that's critical to this book because the young girl character doesn't care who he is, only that he keeps delivering letters from her long lost traveling dolly. It's a window into a moment of Kafka's life as an author that gives you a lot of show without needing any tell. From this book about a two week span where he cheered up a little girl who lost her doll, we get a sense for the time period, his relationship, how he died of tuberculosis, and what kind of a caring person he was. Anything else can be saved for back matter. All that matters is what happens next with Soupsy!
